Tris, hydrochloride is commonly used as a buffer component for DNA or RNA extraction with phenol and as a buffer component for separation and stacking gels in the characterization of protein products by SDS-PAGE. Tris, hydrochloride has also been used with urea as a method for antigen retrieval in immunohistochemistry.
