DTT (Dithiothreitol; Cleland’s reagent) is a reagent that reduces disulfide bridges. In the area of Molecular Biology it is used for SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, and in low concentrations to maintain the sulfhydryl groups of proteins in their reduced state. In proteomics it is used to reduce protein disulfide bonds and reconstruct proteins prior to electrophoresis analysis.
