Guanidine hydrochloride: a chaotropic agent in biochemistry and molecular biology. Denatures, refolds and solubilizes insoluble proteins. It is used as a first step to restore the active form of proteins and enzymes.

NaCl is used to remove small nucleic acid fragments from DNA preparations and to precipitate DNA from SDS-containing samples, in DNA isolation from mammalian cells and in sequencing.
