DirImm MONODOSE dtec-qPCR contains individual ready-to-use tubes containing all the necessary components for the detection of Dirofilaria immitis by qPCR. Dirofilaria immitis (also known as heartworm or dog heartworm) is a parasitic roundworm, a type of filarial worm, which causes dirofilariasis. It is transmitted from one host to another through mosquito bites. The definitive host is the dog, but it can also infect cats, wolves, coyotes, jackals, foxes, ferrets, bears, seals, sea lions and, in rare circumstances, humans. Adult heartworms often reside in the pulmonary arterial system as well as in the heart, and a major effect on the health of the infected animal host is a manifestation of damage to its pulmonary vessels and tissues. The infection can result in serious complications for the infected host if left untreated, which can eventually lead to death.
