Feline immunodeficiency virus RT-qPCR (FIV 202)

RT-qPCR test for the specific detection of Feline immunodeficiency virus – FIV

Feline immunodeficiency virus RT-qPCR (FIV 202)

FIV dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for the detection of feline immunodeficiency virus using RT-qPCR. Feline immunodeficiency virus is a negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the genus Lentivirus. FIV is the only non-primate lentivirus that causes an AIDS-like syndrome, which attacks the immune system, but is not usually fatal to cats. FIV is transmitted primarily through saliva, mainly by bites, and progresses through stages similar to HIV in humans. After the initial stage of infection, there is an asymptomatic stage of variable duration. Some cats remain in this latent stage for only a few months, but for some it can last for years. Finally, the cat progresses to the final stage, in which the cat is extremely susceptible to secondary diseases that inevitably are the cause of death.
